Ranking by Wuhan University

Reported by the Chinese Science Evaluation Research Center of Wuhan University, 2008 Chinese university competitiveness (not including Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan) was published. Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei province were ranked the 7th and the 9th respectively among national key universities, placed the same as last year. As for non-key universities, only Hubei University and Wuhan University of Technology entered top 100 in Hubei Province.

The ranking for national key university is not much different from that of the last year. Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Fudan University were ranked top 4, followed by Shanghai Jiaotong University and Nanjing University. Beijing Normal University enters top 10 for the first time (ranked the 8th).

As for regional competitiveness ranking, Hubei is placed the 8th, dropped one place , right behind Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Liaoning, Shandong, Guangdong and Shanxi.

Wuhan Institute of Biological Engineering, Changjiang Professional College, Wuhan International Trade University and Wuhan College of Foreign Languages and Foreign Affairs entered top 100 charts of private education institutions

There are 963 universities and colleges participated in the ranking, including 119 national key universities, 584 non-key universities and 260 (exclusive independent schools) private education institutions.

This ranking was directed by Prof. Junping Qiu, who is a professor of Information Management College of Wuhan University. Prof. Qiu is also the director of Chinese Science Evaluation Research Center of Wuhan University. The Center first published Chinese University Ranking in 2004. This is the 5th year.
